The best part about Vagator Beach is its sunset; it’s a perfect place to watch the beautiful sunset. Next to Vagator Beach is Ozran Beach, also called Little Vagator. Ozran Beach is relatively less crowded compared to Vagator. There\'s no proper pathway to reach the beach, and you will have to climb down for a couple of minutes to reach it. Do visit Ozran Beach early in the morning to have the entire place to yourself.

6. Old Goa Churches

The reason why this church is so popular is because it houses the mortal remains of Saint Francis Xavier, a Christian missionary. His body has been preserved for over 400 years, and it’s considered a miracle that it hasn’t decayed. Opposite the Bom Jesus Church is the Se Cathedral, with Se meaning sea in Portuguese. The Se Cathedral is considered one of the largest churches in Asia. Just 700 meters from the Se Cathedral, you will find St. Augustine’s Tower. This was once one of the biggest churches during the Portuguese era, but it was demolished, and now only its remains can be found. 7. Panjim Church

• Overview: Immaculate Conception Church, also known as Panjim Church, is one of the most popular churches in Goa. Originally, the church started as a small chapel where people would gather for prayers. In the 1600s, during the Portuguese religious expansion, it was converted into a full-fledged church. Over the years, several improvements were made, and today, the church showcases stunning crisscross architecture. The Panjim Church also houses Goa\'s second-largest bell, which was originally installed in Augustin\'s Church. After Augustin\'s Church was demolished, the bell was moved to Aguada and later relocated to Panjim Church, where it remains today.

8. Facade of old Sancoale Church

The church was declared a national monument in 1937, and since then, the facade has been preserved in its original form. The site is secluded, and you won’t find any crowds here, making it an ideal spot if you’re looking for a peaceful place away from the usual tourist spots. The Old Sancoale Church is perfect for those seeking tranquility amidst the chaos.

9. Divar Island

• Overview: Divar Island is Goa\'s largest river island, located near Panjim and surrounded by the Mandovi River. There is no connecting bridge to the island, so the only way to reach it is by taking a ferry ride. You can take the ferry from multiple places, depending on your location. You can bring your two-wheeler, car, or even a Tempo Traveller on the ferry. The surprising thing is that they don’t charge anything for passengers or two-wheelers, though there is a minimal charge for four-wheelers. Divar Island is a very calm place, away from the crazy crowds of Goa. The countryside roads are very scenic, and you get authentic Goan vibes the moment you land here. Divar island is famous for the church  called Our lady of piety church. It is a beautiful place to spend some quality  time and soak in the beauty of nature. Apart from the church, there isn’t much else to see on the island.

10. Chorao Island & Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary

• Overview: Next to Divar Island is another amazing place called Chorao Island. Unlike Divar, Chorao is surrounded by water on only three sides, and you can reach the island either by ferry ride or by road. Chorao Island is famous for its Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, a haven for nature and bird lovers. Inside the sanctuary, there is a mangrove walk, which became quite popular after going viral on Instagram reels, attracting many tourists. Apart from walking through the mangrove forest, you can also hop onto one of the boats for a bird sighting experience in the sanctuary. Chorao Island is also known for fenny production, a local Goan alcoholic drink made from cashew. While fenny is available throughout Goa, it is not exported outside the state, so if you\'re in Goa, be sure to try this unique drink.

11. Reis Magos Fort

• Overview: Reis Magos is the oldest fort in Goa, built in 1551 on the narrowest stretch of the Mandovi River by the Portuguese. This fort was used by the Portuguese to defend their territory against the Marathas. During the independence era, it was used as a prison to lock down freedom fighters, and their names are mentioned within the fort. Despite its importance in Goa\'s history, Reis Magos Fort was completely abandoned in 1993. Thanks to a UK-based trust, the Helen Hamlyn Trust, which funded the restoration in 2008, the fort was brought back to life. The restoration was impressively executed by Goa\'s well-known architect Gerard da Cunha. Inside the fort, there is a gallery hall displaying the history of Goa. From the fort, you can enjoy a mesmerizing view of the Mandovi River and the surrounding areas. Since many people are unaware of this place, it remains less crowded. The fort is, in my opinion, the best fort in all of Goa. Next to the fort is the Reis Magos Church, which was also built around the same time.

12. Aguada Fort & Aguada Jail

• Overview: Fort Aguada is a well-preserved fort overlooking the Arabian Sea. It was originally constructed in 1612 by the Portuguese to guard against the Dutch. The fort is divided into two parts: the upper fort and the lower fort. The lower fort was used as a safe berth for Portuguese ships, while the upper fort was built as a vantage point and also served as a water station for the ships. The word Aguada means watering place in Portuguese. This fort had a freshwater spring that was used to supply water to the ships. The fort is comprised of a moat, underground water storage, a lighthouse, a gunpowder room, and bastions. The lighthouse at this fort is one of the oldest in India and was operational until 1976. Next to the fort is the new lighthouse that you can visit as well. The best part about the new lighthouse is that you can climb all the way to the top. Climbing the lighthouse might be difficult for elders and kids, as the last stretch is quite tricky to climb. Once you are on the top, you can enjoy the 360-degree panoramic view. Apart from this, you can also visit the Aguada Jail, which used to be the largest prison in Goa. If you want to visit the lower Aguada fort, search for Sinquerim Fort on Google Maps, as it is around 3.5 km from the upper Aguada fort.

13. Chapora Fort

• Overview: Chapora Fort is famous primarily for its connection to the Bollywood film Dil Chahta Hai, where the iconic scene of three friends reflecting on their future plans was shot. Apart from its cinematic significance, the fort has a rich history and offers truly mesmerizing views. Chapora Fort was once an important strategic location and remains a popular spot for tourists. It is considered one of the best places to watch the sunset, although with the recent implementation of timings, the fort is now closed at 5 pm. It’s best to avoid visiting the fort in the afternoon, as there is no shade or seating area inside the fort.

14. Harvalem Waterfalls, Amona Bridge & Namazgah

• Overview: Goa is not just about beaches, churches, or forts. It is home to some of the prettiest waterfalls in India, and Harvalem Waterfall is one of the best among them. If you are visiting Goa during the monsoon or just after, a visit to Harvalem Waterfalls is a must. Don\'t miss the Rudreshwar Temple, located next to the waterfall, which adds to the spiritual significance of the place. Apart from the waterfalls, you can also visit the Harvalem Caves. On your way back, depending on your route, you can either visit the Amona Bridge or Namazgah. Amona Bridge, located towards Panjim, is a steel bridge that is half a kilometer in length and is very photogenic. On the other hand, if you are heading towards North Goa, you can visit Namazgah, an open-air prayer area built in Turko-Persian architecture. To reach the mosque, you will need to walk down a narrow road for about 5 minutes. The place may seem abandoned, but it is a protected monument, and you will find few tourists here. Local Muslims gather at Namazgah for prayers during Eid.

15. Parra Road

This 800-meter-long stretch is incredibly picturesque and Instagram-worthy, making it a perfect spot for clicking photos or shooting reels. However, it is important to remember that Parra Road is not a tourist attraction—it\'s a local road used for daily commutes. To avoid disrupting traffic, make sure not to block the road, as the local panchayat has placed a no-parking sign along the stretch. If the nuisance continues, they might even ban photography here. To enjoy the beauty of the road without the crowd or traffic, it’s best to visit early in the morning.

The best way to explore this charming neighborhood is on foot. Park your vehicle and take a leisurely walk through the colorful streets, discovering hidden gems perfect for your photos. There are plenty of spots worth capturing, so keep your camera ready. 17. Temples of Goa

1. Cola Beach

Reaching Cola Beach is a bit of an adventure in itself, as the roads leading there are in poor condition, especially the last 1 km stretch, which can be quite challenging. While skilled riders can navigate it on a two-wheeler, an SUV is ideal for those who want to drive all the way. Alternatively, visitors can park and walk for about 20 to 30 minutes to reach this hidden gem. Because Cola Beach is relatively unknown and hard to access, it is less crowded, making it perfect for those seeking tranquility. The highlight of Cola Beach is its stunning lagoons, where a freshwater stream flows through the area, bordered by tall coconut trees. Kayaking in these shallow waters is a must-do activity. However, since the food and accommodation options are limited, especially during the off-season, it\'s advisable to carry your own snacks and water if you\'re planning a trip during the summer or monsoon months.

2. Cabo de Rama beach

• Overview: The best beach in Goa is the one which you visit accidentally. From the cliff above, the view was simply mesmerizing—the blue ocean stretching out, surrounded by lush greenery. Much like Cola Beach, Cabo de Rama Beach has beautiful lagoons with crystal-clear water. The beach was impeccably clean, making it the perfect spot to get into the water. There’s also a popular restaurant called Cape Goa on the beach. The food, ambience, and views is all incredible.

3. Butterfly Beach

• Overview: Nestled between Agonda and Palolem, Butterfly Beach is a serene and secluded gem in South Goa. This tiny stretch of sand is accessible via boat ride or a short trek. The boat ride is the most popular way to reach the beach, departing from Palolem, Agonda, or Patnem, with prices typically ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 700 per person, depending on your negotiation skills. For the more adventurous, kayaking from Palolem to Butterfly Beach offers a unique and thrilling 3-kilometer journey through the open ocean. Alternatively, you can hike to the beach, which takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes depending on your starting point. The roads leading up to the beach narrow down as you get closer, and you\'ll need to park your vehicle before embarking on the final leg of the hike. If you’re driving a four-wheeler, a boat ride might be a more comfortable choice due to the challenging road conditions. Once you arrive, you\'ll find a small, pristine beach flanked by rocky outcrops with a stretch of white sand in the middle, offering an ideal spot to relax or take in the views from the rocks. However, be prepared—there are no shops or eateries here, so pack water and snacks if you plan to stay longer, especially if you choose the hike. Sadly, Butterfly Beach has suffered from over-tourism, and the beauty that once defined it has been marred by litter, so it\'s essential to respect the environment and keep the beach clean. Nearby, Honeymoon Beach remains inaccessible by foot, but you can catch a glimpse of it from a boat ride. However, boats will not allow you to disembark at Honeymoon Beach.

4. Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary (Mainapi and Savri Waterfalls)

• Overview: Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful, off-the-beaten-path destination located about 30 km from Palolem and 44 km from Margao. This protected forest, maintained by the Goa Forest Department, is a no-plastic zone, so visitors are not allowed to carry single-use plastics or alcohol. The sanctuary\'s main attractions are the Mainapi and Savri Waterfalls. Reaching Mainapi Waterfalls requires a 4 km trek through dense forest, taking about an hour and a half, but it rewards visitors with a stunning view and a shallow natural pool at the base. The Savri Waterfalls, located just 1 km away and a shorter 20-minute walk, is equally beautiful, though it can get crowded due to its easier accessibility. The pool here is deeper, so safety precautions are advised. The sanctuary is well-maintained, and though there’s no mobile network inside, offline maps can help with navigation. There are no restaurants or shops, so visitors should carry their own water and food. For those with extra time, smaller waterfalls like Bamanbudo and Bhupar can be visited on the way back.

The first, a trek along the railway track, was once a popular route starting from either Castle Rock or Kulem Railway Station. However, this trek is now banned due to safety concerns, and although some still attempt it, it\'s highly discouraged. The second and safer method is by taking an off-road Jeep ride from Kulem, about 36 km from Margao. Since private vehicles are not allowed into the forest, visitors must park their vehicles in Kulem, buy tickets for the Jeep ride, and also rent a life jacket and pay a forest entry fee. The Jeep ride is around 10 km long and takes about 30 minutes, followed by a 20-minute walk to the waterfall. The total time at the falls is limited to about 1.5 hours, so it’s best to arrive early, especially during peak hours when the site can get crowded. The waterfall’s pool is quite deep, so wearing a life jacket is mandatory for safety. The monsoon season (June to September) is considered the best time to visit, as the falls are at their most powerful and scenic, but visitors should wear shoes with good grip due to the slippery trail.
